The announcement follows a report from Sports Gamers Online that EA has decided to stop any further games with franchise-based modes in Madden 22. The IGN report was Madden nfl 22 coins based partly on an video interview of Madden 22 executive producer Seann Graddy. She said that this year's content strategy is "slightly less ambitious than in years before" since the team is focused on a handful of key areas instead of trying to roll out features on the level of Superstar KO, a well-received arcade mode released by Madden 20.

"I would suggest that [the roadmap is] likely to be smaller than the previous ones because we are really focused on a handful of core elements that are the core of Madden 22 and also getting going on Madden 23 in a big manner," Graddy said at the time. "So I'm sticking to what we've always said the past few years"we're a live game and we'll be continuing to update this game. However, we're definitely not going to be talking about a completely new mode."

The report garnered attention in part because franchise mode is a source of irritation for some Madden players. In fact, the roadmap was initially a response to the #fixmaddenfranchise hashtag that circulated Twitter between mid-2020. It was initiated following reports that EA wasn't planning improvements to franchise mode.

Since since then, EA has released new commissioner tools and other improvements that include a major overhaul of its scouting system. Madden 22 also introduced an enhanced scenario engine, season-long cutscenes, as well as coaching skill trees. Yet, players continue to highlight various areas where franchise mode may be better compared to the other modes, from the relative lack of customization to the multitude of bugs.

Although EA Sports wouldn't provide any specifics, further improvements are expected at some point next year. The updates could include the expansion of franchises and improvements in the initial roadmap in Madden 22. Expect more details in 2022.
