There are nearly 7000 students that live in on-campus housing at Texas State University. Many of them are typically first-year students. There are still upperclassmen that will choose to live with an arrangement that will be closer to classes and other facilities in and around the Quad.

Other students may even consider off-campus housing. When is a good time for a student like yourself to think about new living arrangements? This guide will give you a few good ideas.

Ready to get started? Here we go.

  1. If the financial considerations are worth it

To begin, it’s important to remember that apartments don’t come cheap. It is important to determine whether or not you can be able to afford off-campus housing or if it’s better to stay in the dorms. There are apartments for rent in San Marcos in places like The Parlor - which are actually close to the campus itself.

The best thing about that is you don’t need to travel too far to get to class or go somewhere on campus. You’re at least a 2 minute drive from the Quad (or a 10 minute walk if you prefer). You may need to bring in a roommate that can split the rent bill with you among other living expenses.

  1. If you are looking for independence and privacy

Who is to say we blame you for wanting a place all to yourself? If you want off-campus housing of your own (and have the financial ability to do so), then you can do that. One of the main perks of living off-campus is that you might not have to deal with noisy roommates or neighbors down the hall.

If you need the privacy all to yourself when you need to study, you get it with off-campus housing. So take advantage of that opportunity if you are able to.

  1. When the need for more amenities arise

Here’s the thing: both on-campus and off-campus housing both have excellent amenities. However, off-campus housing may have that edge since some things may be right on site. For example, you have a fitness center that could be right down the hall instead of clear across campus.

Or you might have your own stove and oven to cook dinner without having to share it. The real reason is you want to experience the amenities when it’s easily accessible to you and you alone. Not to worry, we won’t judge if you want certain things to yourself.

Off-campus housing? The Parlor can do that

While we are not a student-exclusive apartment complex, The Parlor could be the best option for Texas State Students who desire to live off campus. Did we mention that you’ll be close to the campus?
